It's interesting to run into how modern social club'southward response to someone looking at their sentinel has changed over the years. Just a hundred years agone, when nosotros transitioned from pocket watches to wristwatches, looking at the time on your wrist was considered a sign of affluence. Over the years, as wristwatches became more than affordable and commonplace, and equally the step of life gradually picked up in urban parts of the globe, looking at your watch meant you were in a hurry. Look at a sentinel in a boardroom meeting now and information technology's considered downright rude (perhaps even more than than checking your phone). Challenging that social perception is Prompt… an Anti-Lookout man. What is an anti-lookout, y'all enquire? Well, on a philosophical level, it's the antithesis of the sentinel's entire UX, because the Prompt lets you check the fourth dimension – without looking at your spotter.

For a watch that was designed to exist used without looking at it, Prompt is quite a looker. With a beautiful minimal aesthetic, Prompt comes with a familiar watch silhouette, but has absolutely no hands, face, or crown. The center of the watch does, notwithstanding, have a sleeky concave surface that serves as a tactile lookout man face. Touch on it, and the watch vibrates to tell y'all the time. Prompt, as its name suggests, prompts you with tactile cues to permit yous know when an hr passes by. Splitting the hour into four 15-minute quadrants, the watch vibrates anywhere from one to four times to let you know the hr is passing… then if you're in a meeting that'south supposed to be half an 60 minutes long, only touching Prompt can allow you know that yous're halfway through a meeting with just 1 vibration, nearing completion with two vibrations, and running into overtime with 3 quick pulses. You can effectively keep runway of how the hr passes without having to await at your watch and appear uncivil or rude.

That being said, Prompt does have the power to actually tell you the time accurately down to each minute as well (rather than in 15-minute intervals). Around the edge of the watch lies a ring of LED markings that illuminate when you lot printing downward on the watch'southward heart for more than than 3 seconds. The blinking lights bated, Prompt possesses (and celebrates) a meditative quality that has you less worried virtually each second and each minute. As its name suggests, it prompts yous rather than overloading you with data the way smartwatches of today do… and past changing the way you fundamentally collaborate with a watch from a visual format to a tactile one, it successfully creates the anti-watch revolution it set up out to!

How Prompt Works

Early iterations of the tactile timepiece went to lengths to tell y'all the precise time, correct down to the hour and infinitesimal. Just since virtually meetings start at the top of the hr or halfway past the hour, the design team ultimately realized that staying prompt only required a timepiece to convey "four moments in time" – right earlier or after the peak of hour, and right before or after the one-half-hour.

Touching the smooth concave glass lens triggers between ane and 4 vibrations to represent those "four moments in time":

– One vibration means you lot're within the first xv minutes in the hour
– Ii vibrations for the second 15 minutes in the hour
– Three vibrations for the 3rd
– Four vibrations for the last fifteen minutes in the hour

Quarterly Moments in Time

Precise Time to the Minute

If you desire to know the precise time, y'all can ever glance at the LEDs that run the circumference of the timepiece. This is activated past pressing on the lens for more than three seconds.

Visual time check example: 11 minutes afterwards the 60 minutes.
